How’ve you been? I had a cup of tea with a famous person last week. She’s famous because she fought hard to get to the top, made it and now everyone knows she’s the best in the world at what she does. She is pretty fantastically awesome, and I want a jar of the fuel that drives her.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we become great at what we do. As most of you know, I have a copywriting business, a financial education business and a new vegan cosmetics, skin care and personal care business, which is growing like grass in the rain. It’s all aligned with Mind and Money.
On that note, I must just take the advice I’m about to hand over to you and quickly ask, Ladies and Gentlemen are you in the market for botanically based vegan skincare, makeup or personal care products today? Or vegan, non dairy, sports nutrition?
I’m opening a Giveaway and Flash Sale right now, 31 May until 6pm with up to 50% off skincare, makeup and sports nutrition, free gifts with purchase and all orders go into the draw to win a $250 Pamper Hamper.
To buy, check out the catalogue here , select your language and browse. Then email or call me now on firstname.lastname@example.org +61417 455137* with your wishlist and I’ll do the rest.
Let’s go on with the story…
So I asked her, my famous person friend, about the things we most need to get to the top and here’s what she said:
Clarity of vision is everything: What IS your goal, describe it. Do you want to be a top income earner in your company? If so, what does that mean? What’s the actual number?
Do you want to be a world class footballer or runner, build a school in Africa? Get really clear about the measure, what’s your number as it applies to your goal, number of World Cups you want sitting on your shelf, how many children in your school?
How much, how big? Got it clear in your mind? Ok, onto…
Now, how does it feel? Are you scared of it (hell no – BRING IT)! If you are, then take yourself off for some confidence building, feel the fear, reset and start again.
Feel your goal as if you’re already there. It is a “hell yeah” or a “hell no?” If it’s somewhere in the middle, reset and start again because you’re not going to the top from the middle ground.
Are your dearest People on board? If your closest folks aren’t with you they’ll sabotage you, maybe not consciously, but it’s going to be a hell of a lot harder to work like a boss and achieve your dream if your nearest and dearest are moaning about your commitment and you’re continually justifying yourself to them and therefore yourself; you don’t need that tension in your life.
Plus, if you and your partner, in particular, aren’t aligned, there may be another problem with your shared lives and it’s important to address it. Oops, sorry about that.
Paint the picture for them, can they see it as clearly as you can? How does it feel for them? Repeat steps 1-2
What’s it going to take to get there?
Nothing worthwhile comes without effort and dedication. For the sake of our current line of thought, let’s work on Malcolm Gladwell’s theory that every great endeavour had at least 10,000 hours of practice behind it. How long will it take to become magnificent at your ‘thing?’
Say you work 60 hours a week at your ‘thing.’ It will take 167 weeks or 3.2 years to be an expert at it.
80 hours a week, it takes 125 weeks or 2.4 years
100 hours a week, it takes 100 weeks or 1.9 years.
How long are you willing to invest in becoming the expert?
Let’s say you choose 80 hours a week. That leaves 12.4 hours a day to sleep, eat and have leisure time.
On 100 hours a week, you’re left with 9.7 hours a day for sleeping, eating and recreation time.
So have a real good think about your ‘thing,’ how committed are you, truly?
Don’t be afraid to ask. If you want it, ask.
Is your thing really your thing?
Oh and, sometimes the process highlights that in fact, the thing you thought was your thing is not, in fact, your thing. And that’s ok too. Plenty of other things out there to be had, just find one.
But can I tell you, I’m more excited about my skincare and makeup consumables ‘thing’ than ever. To be honest I never really thought that of the three businesses I run this was going to excite me, challenge me, reward me and fuel my growth as much as it has. It’s simple, my famous friend’s tips are actually built into the business. Are yours built into yours?
