January 2017- I’d just promoted to the next level in my Arbonne business and was flying high. I jumped into the 30 Days to Healthy Living Programme and took a couple of bikini shots. Then family arrived from the US and well, you know, mimosas. “It’s January come on, it’s holiday time!” I quit, 6 days in.
Perhaps it was bad timing, more likely it was the absence of a clear reason to complete it. I couldn’t see that the results were really possible, and I was the master of self sabotage, so I said to myself “what the hell!” I wasn’t willing to do what had to be done, because I wasn’t aligned with the end result.
3 months on, my business hit a slump, I hit a slump. I was drinking more wine than I really wanted to, sleeping, but waking tired and lethargic, falling into bad habits and making them part of my routine. I wasn’t moving towards my health, personal or business goals because I couldn’t see them clearly enough.
Then a few months ago I had a health scare, lots of checks and I’m fine, but it started to get me thinking about how I was living. It was no coincidence my business was flatlining and my confidence was falling.
It was time for some introspection; what areas needed work? I worked hard on me, doing hours of personal development daily, rising at 5.45 to meditate and reflect, introducing time discipline to schedule the loose ends in my life that weren’t completing, and reassessing priorities. It was starting to work, but I felt a bit foggy in the brain, a bit blurgh in the body and still had some super unhelpful habits that weren’t serving me.
September 2017- I FINALLY started the 30 Days to Healthy Living Plan which had been part of my company for years- but [embarrassingly] had never actually completed it. This month I’ve cut out refined sugar, coffee, gluten, dairy, soy, alcohol & processed food and used Arbonne supplements for convenience and added goodness, while cooking simple and utterly delicious healthy recipes for the whole family for dinner.
Instead of running out of the door for work every morning with a vat of coffee and 2 slabs of toast, I have a smoothie instead, packed with vitamins, minerals, fibre, antioxidants all wrapped up in the perfect balance of protein fat and carbs. Yum.
My energy is now through the roof, I’m up at 5am, my mind is sharper and I have more focus and discipline.
Yes, it’s been interesting observing how my body feels, but what’s been more enlightening is how the programme has affected my mind. Some days it’s been hard to turn down a glass of wine, or a coffee, but I’ve been so focused on completion that the will to succeed has kept me going. When we’re presented with temptations, desire ultimately passes, so in the same way, I recognise negative thoughts and feelings; they pass.
My husband cycles up mountains to show himself that he can, if you ask mountain climbers why they climb Everest they’ll say, “because it’s there.” Different people have different motivations and expressions of self-discipline.
So what’s been my motivation? It was to prove to myself (and no one else) that I can; that I have a strong will and mental discipline; for self respect, for my body, my mind and my health, and of course because it’s there.
More importantly I also did it to lead and inspire others. How can I inspire others if I don’t know what’s involved myself?
Many of my friends and associates have said you want to break old habits, and create new healthier ways to take care of yourselves so this is for you as much as me.
I finish up the September programme today, a few days short, ready to enjoy a weekend with old friends in the Hunter Valley and then back to it again tomorrow to lead the next group through October’s programme.
Several of you have taken a leap of faith to join me and I’m so excited to be leading you. It’s fun to do this with friends. Especially before the silly season begins.
Do you want to do it with me? Do you want to feel unbeatable? I promise you won’t regret it.
Make a decision today that your future self will thank you for.
